We take doors off their hinges wherever practical, remove the hardware, and spray them flat so the finish lays out without brush marks. Panelled doors get cut in a specific order — panels, then rails, then stiles — which is what stops the lap marks you see on rushed work.
Front doors are their own problem in this climate. Direct sun on a dark slab can push surface temperatures past 140°F, so we use exterior enamels rated for heat and UV, and we prime bare or previously stained wood so tannins do not bleed through the new colour.

Questions
Latex enamels need a few hours to handle and a couple of days before the door and jamb should stay closed for long periods, so we schedule the coat early in the day.
Yes — it is stripped or de-glossed, sealed with a stain-blocking primer, then finished with an exterior enamel that will not bleed.
Spraying gives the smoothest result and we prefer it. Where a door cannot come off, a fine-finish roller and brush technique gets very close.
